Aki Lee (b. 1992) is a Vienna-based Chinese artist, urban practitioner and PhD candidate at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, with an interdisciplinary background in social design, media arts and fashion design.

Based on urban regeneration projects in Southern China since 2014, her research brings contextualized human geography and community fieldwork into participatory engagement and playful urban tools (Game of Collective Suffering, 2020). Working critically on the structure–agency question through adaptive roles in governmental and private projects, her practice turns that grounding into action: mediating the antagonism between bureaucratic procedure and everyday struggles, and translating situated knowledge into processes of social transformation. As part of her PhD, she is currently datafying and visualizing her locally collected ethnobotanical archive at Complexity Science Hub (Vienna), with funding support from Design Trust (HK).
